Michigan has always been where we’ve found life at its most vibrant. We are Midwesterners to the very core; hard-working, coney-dog eating, Stroh’s-drinking folk who can show where we live by pointing at the soft fleshy part of our palms.

Robert Stanzler

Proprietor Robert Stanzler is a fourth-generation Detroiter whose great-grandfather migrated here from Poland to work at the Ford Model T assembly plant.

The creator of the original Made In Detroit logo and brand, current owner of Detroit Manufacturing – Robert has defined what it means to wear your heart on your sleeve, or back, or chest. His love of the City of Detroit is unequaled.

We aren’t really “rules” kind of people but there are few things we should probably get straight with everyone.

VINTAGE ITEMS

All of the vintage items we sell are guaranteed to be authentic and the provenance and descriptions are accurate to the best of our knowledge. We research all of the products to try and make sure you know exactly what you are buying. We feel that we are not just providing goods – we are providing a piece of Americana.

NEW ITEMS

We take great care to seek out the highest quality goods from some of the most respected brands in the country for The Detroit Mercantile Co. We are authorized retailers in good standing with each of the brands represented in out store and on our website.

CONDITION OF ITEMS

While we strive to find items that are perfect condition [who doesn’t!] it is often the case that some of our items may have some vintage patina to them. Many of these pieces have come straight out of the factories, garages, barns, and basements of the area and may not have the splendor of when they were new – but that is why you are shopping on our site or in our store – and not at the mall. We do our absolute best to describe the condition of every item down to the last detail – and provide photos to make sure you know what you are buying. RETURNS AND EXCHANGES - GENERAL INFORMATION

We cannot accept returns on any of our vintage items. We are happy to exchange any of our Detroit Mercantile Exclusives or new items for fit or quality issues. If a t-shirt doesn’t fit, no problem, send it back. But due to the unique nature of our vintage items, once you have bought it, it is yours to enjoy – so please, if you have any questions, do not hesitate to ask.

RETURNS AND EXCHANGES - DETAILS

Returns on non-vintage items [anything labeled “New” or a “Detroit Mercantile Exclusive”] are gladly accepted within 30 days for store/website credit or exchange. We do not provide refunds. All claims must be made within 30 days. Sale items are not eligible for return or exchange unless damaged during shipping [See “Damages/Defective Merchandise Section]. All returned items must be returned in original and unused condition with the original packing materials. Please make sure that items are well packed (additional packaging may be necessary) and insured for the full amount. A restocking fee may apply to any order not received in good condition. Shipping cost are non-refundable and all costs for return shipment are the responsibility of the customer.

To make a return or exchange, you will need a Return Exchange Authorization Code [REAC] number. To obtain a REAC#, please email us at info@detroitmercantile.com and include your order number and a list of the item(s) you are returning. We’ll then reply back with your REAC #, which you’ll need to include in the address field of your package.

*Important: Do not return any product(s) until you have received an REAC #

Upon receipt of the shipment, we will contact you by email to confirm your website/store credit. Please reference your REAC number when calling to check on the status of your return.

DAMAGES/DEFECTIVE MERCHANDISE

Please inspect your purchase as soon as it arrives. Damage claims on shipped items must be made within 48 hours of package arrival. No claims can be made after 48 hours. If for some reason there is damage or defect to your item, please notify us immediately. Call 313-831-9000 or email info@detroitmercantile.com for a return authorization on damaged items.

KEEPING SECRETS

Detroit Mercantile respects your privacy and will never sell, loan, rent, trade or give away any personal information that you offer during your visit. We only ask that you tell as many people as possible about us.

BARTER AND TRADE

In the online shop we accept Visa and MasterCard, American Express as forms of credit card payment. We also accept PayPal.

PROTECTING OUR CUSTOMERS

Detroit Mercantile’s secured socket layer (ssl) uses the latest, industry-standard 256-bit encryption technology to ensure that your personal information (especially your name, address and credit card number) stays out of the wrong hands, and cannot be read or intercepted as it travels to our payment processing system. Look for the https:// in the address bar of your browser when you checkout – the ‘s’ stands for ‘secure’. Our security certificate can be viewed by double-clicking the little padlock icon at the bottom of your browser window.

If you do not feel comfortable with using your credit card online, you can call us at 313-831-9000 or email us at info@detroitmercantile.com with your order information, your address and phone number where you can be reached. We will then call you for your credit card information.

THE TAXMAN

We collect 6% Michigan sales tax on all orders shipped to addresses in Michigan. Residents in other states are responsible for complying with local state tax laws.

THE TIME TO BUY IS WHEN YOU SEE IT

Due to the vintage nature of most of our items, it is difficult to maintain a consistent stock of everything in the shop. If you see something marked “SOLD” that you just can’t live without – click on the “Please Find Another One!” link and we will do our best to find you one.
