Shipping – General Information

We always feel a small tinge of sorrow when one of our items sells. And sending them off gives us the same feeling that we assume a mother feels watching her firstborn step onto the bus to Kindergarten for the first time. While we are happy to share our treasures with others, sending them out into the cruel world can cause some serious anxiety for everyone involved!

So rest assured that anything you purchase from Detroit Mercantile will be wrapped, packaged and shipped to assure it arrives quickly and safely.

We have found that the United States Postal Service has a safety and reliability record second only to hand-delivery by ninja Boy Scouts. However, if the situation dictates we may utilize UPS or Federal Express. Some items, due to their size or weight, may require more specialized shipping methods – but we will jump off that bridge when we get to it.

Our shopping cart does provide a shipping cost based on your zip code. If there are any changes we will certainly let you know in advance.

Shipping – Details

All orders are usually processed and shipped out within 3 to 4 business days. Detroit Mercantile is not responsible for service transit time. Transit times are provided by the carrier (USPS, UPS, FedEx, etc..) and may vary with package origin and destination, particularly during peak periods. All orders are shipped via FedEx, UPS, or USPS. All shipping costs are determined by the weight of the items purchased, the method of shipping chosen and the destination address. International Shipping – Duties and Fees

Please note that customers are responsible for all international custom and duty fees. These are in addition to, and not included in, the cost of shipping. As a business we are obligated to declare all items as merchandise. We are not able to mark items as “gift”.

Shipping – Notifications

The Detroit Mercantile Co. will provide you with a tracking number via e-mail within 48 hours of shipping your items.

Shipping – Transit & Insurance

Once an order is given to a shipping carrier, the package then becomes that carrier’s responsibility and Detroit Mercantile is no longer liable. All orders shipped via UPS automatically include up to $100 insurance. If you would like to include insurance on a USPS order, please contact us directly.

Shipping – Incorrect / Insufficient / Misdirected Address / Order Cancellation

If you mistakenly provided us with an incorrect or insufficient address or would like to cancel your order, please contact us immediately with the corrected information. If your order has not yet shipped, we will correct it immediately with no problem. if your order has already been shipped via USPS, we must wait until delivery is attempted and then returned back to us before we can change the address or provide you with a refund – please note that original shipping charges are non-refundable and additional shipping charges will incur for reshipment. If your order has already been shipped via UPS, we can contact the carrier to reroute to the correct address – please note that original shipping charges are non-refundable and additional charges will incur for rerouting. In the case where a package is refused and shipped back to us, customers will be responsible for the original shipping charges

Shipping – Special Circumstances

Some of the items in our shop are too large or heavy to ship through standard channels. These items will be identified in the item description. Please feel free to contact us before purchasing to receive a shipping quote.
